EDWARDS ENDS NIGHT EARLY WITH LAP THREE ACCIDENT

DARLINGTON, SC (May 9, 2008) - Edwards went into historic Darlington Raceway on Friday night with one goal to take over the Nationwide Series points lead. Edwards started out strong by setting a track record and winning his first pole of the season. That's where it ended. Edwards raced Clint Bowyer into turn three on lap one, got loose and hit the wall. On lap three Edwards' right front tire went down and sent him into the wall for the second and final time with a very hard hit. Edwards headed to the garage and his night ended early causing him to drop a position to Kyle Busch in the overall Nationwide Series points standings. Edwards finished 43rd on the 1.366 egg shaped oval.
"We hit the wall," stated Edwards. "The first time was definitely my fault. I've just got to apologize to my guys. They've worked so hard. This Fusion was fast. I need to apologize to everybody at Water Smart and Scotts. They dropped the green and I was ready to race. I got loose and hit the wall. I guess I cut down a tire. I just feel bad. That was a bad mistake and I learned my lesson there."
Next weekend the Nationwide Series is off. The next race for them will be a Saturday night race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, NC for the Memorial Day weekend. Scotts will be running their Water Smart paint scheme again. Edwards dropped one position to third in the overall Nationwide Series points standings.
