Phoenix International Raceway - 9:30pm ESPN2

Phoenix International Heats it Up! With its unique tri-oval shape, Phoenix International Raceway is home to the largest one-day sporting event in Arizona and several other large state events. The track is carved into the foothills of the Estrella Mountains in Avondale, Ariz.
In 2006, Carl Edwards finished third at Phoenix International Raceway in his first night race of the season - his first visit back to the track since winning on the one-mile oval track in November of 2005.
From 1964 to 1988, race car greats, such as Mario Andretti, A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones and the Unsers, zoomed down the one-mile paved road with the curve in the middle of its backstretch. Best known as "the dogleg," this curve between turns two and three exists because Phoenix International Raceway's builders were constrained by the rocky hills on the property and their addition of an external road course and drag strip into the course's design.
In 1988, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series arrived at Phoenix International Raceway, opening up a new world of racing opportunity and thus cementing the Raceway's presence as a major sporting attraction in the Valley of the Sun.
